Scott is the founder of God’s Relay Race, a city-wide prayer gathering for the Marketplace in Kansas City. Below are parts of the genesis story of this monthly prayer group
In 2000 First Retreat
“In 2000, I had what I call a King Solomon moment, and it’s where it just you know, you feel the weight of the responsibility you have as a leader. So that very first year that summer,
I went on a spiritual retreat, just to say, God, just like Solomon’s came, and, and said, give me wisdom of how to lead these people I that was kind of this, the same driving motivation. My heart was, Lord, give me wisdom”
Marketplace prayer in Texas - 2008
In 2008 Scott left Kansas City and moved to Waco Texas. There he initiated a weekly prayer gathering for the market place and people were coming to that.
Prayer for the Marketplace in Kansas City - 2015
In 2015 Scott moved back to Kansas City for a few years he was unable to do his annual prayer retreats. He continued going to a local market place prayer gathering at International House of Prayer KC.
God's Relay Race is Founded - 2019
In 2019, His work situation changed and he began planning another summer retreat starting in August.
In 2019 the Spiritual Roots of Kansas City was published.
Through reading this book Scott realized that centennial year for the largest business men’s bible class of 52,121 people who had gathered in downtown Kansas City in 1923 was just four years away.
“I am thinking, wow, in four years were going to have the centennial of this historical event that happened right here in our city.” – Scott
Scott gathered others to discuss and pray about this upcoming centenial year. Through communicating and praying with others about this upcoming centennial year. They felt like they were grabbing the baton from 1923, as in a relay race.
God’s Relay Race was chosen as the name, it is an invitation to current KC business leaders to grab the extended baton of past praying business leaders in Kansas City and pray for God to work in our times also.
“We felt like we’re in a relay race. I mean, you know, relay races where it’s different legs, and each runner runs their part, they hand off the baton to the next runner. And that’s what we felt like we were doing that there was a generation 100 years ago, that were called by God to gather together.” – Scott
They made the decision to open up the annual business retreat originally started in 2000 to people who wanted to pray for the market place in Kansas City. These annual gatherings would be stepping stones toward the 2023 centennial year.
Monthy Prayer for Marketplace in Kansas City Begins - 2020
In 2020, Scott and the God’s Relay Race team was led to start a monthly gathering which now meets on the second Saturday of every month.
Remaining Faithful to the Vision 2021 - 2022
Remaining faithful to a mission is often what it takes.
I am reminded of the scripture in Habakkuk 2:3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time;
it speaks of the end
and will not prove false.
Though it linger, wait for it;
it will certainly come
and will not delay.
